 | When the doors close on 'Picasso in Istanbul' 200,000 visitors will have paid homage to the master at the first major exhibition devoted to a werstern artist to be held in Turkey. The 135 works selected by his grandson Bernard Ruiz-Picasso cover every period of Pablo Picasso's ouevre.Of them 116 are owned by the family and have never been exhibited since Picasso's death. In La Sieste (the cover of catalogue), his voluptuous mistress Marie-Therese lies on a bed of vivid grass. Bird , a pot dating from 1947 -48, recalls the Early Bronze Age rhytons in many a Turkish museum. Still Life with Fish and Bottles is an early work (1909) in which the first stirrings of cubism are expressed in a colour palette still inspired by Cézanne. |
