Anatolian Plant Legacy

An exhibition focusing on the plant diversity of Anatolia through botanical illustration

By Harriet Rix | May 10, 2025

A new exhibition of botanical art is arriving at Salt Beyoğlu, Istanbul on May 15 and will run to August 10, 2025, with a day of events on May 18.

The exhibition (part of Botanical Art Worldwide 2025) will bring together 80 original works by 47 artists, all of which will celebrate Anatolian Flora. The exhibition will focus on those plants which were first cultivated in Anatolia and for thousands of years have been essential food plants for people worldwide; fennel, durum wheat, chickpea, barley, rye, plum, and apple, but rarer and more decorative plants will creep in.

In conjunction with the exhibition, and to celebrate the Worldwide Day of Botanical Art on May 18, a special event has been organised by Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden and the Flora Research Society in which experts from Turkey and around the world talk about the way that the Turkish flora has shaped the world, both artistically and in gardens. The day includes lectures and a panel discussion. All are very welcome, and the event is free to attend.
