IMAGES V conference: Images of (Cultural) Values

Call for papers

By THE CORNUCOPIA BLOG | May 20, 2015

The IMAGES conference is back for its fifth edition and will take place at a venue in Beyoğlu this year. Developed by Veronika Bernard, an associate professor at the Department of German Language and Literature at the University of Innsbruck, and the photographer Serhan Oksay, the conference series is part of a larger interdisciplinary project on cultural encounters, poverty and migration. Last year, Cornucopia attended the conference and found it thoroughly fascinating and worthwhile. Rather than just featuring ‘talking head’ academics, the conference presents speakers working in the fields that are being discussed and encourages audience participation. Click here to read more about last year’s conference.

The conference is calling for papers for some of the sessions/panels. One to two more speakers are being sought for each of the below sessions, totalling five to seven speakers:

  • Session 2: Images of cultural values in the field of music
  • Session 3: Images of cultural values in the arts (past and present)
  • Session 4: Images of cultural values in feature films (past and present)
  • Session 5: Images of cultural values in public spaces as a statement
  • Session 6: The ethnic and images of cultural values

The conference invites not only scholars, but also architects, photographers, writers, artists and filmmakers to present their research findings in 20 minute (paper) presentations, with 10 minutes for discussion. There will be no parallel sessions and all sessions will be plenary. The conference language is English.

Please send proposals for papers to images-1@gmx.at and cc them to veronika.bernard@uibk.ac.at, smerrell@brookes.ac.uk and to otuzun@hotmail.com. Poposals for the remaining vacancies will be accepted until May 31, 2015.

The conference takes place September 2–3, 2015 at the Supa Business Salon (Manzara Istanbul) in Suriye Pasajı, at İstiklâl Caddesi 166.
