- What’s On
The Gümüşlük Classical Music Festival, the highlight of the summer season in Bodrum, is back again this year with a diverse programme of concerts, workshops and jam sessions featuring music ranging from classical to jazz, ethnic music to alternative music. This year’s festival revolves around three separate concepts: ‘Jazz on the Water’, ‘Guitar on the Sand’ and ‘Classical music on the Stone’
Spanning five weeks, the festival will take place at various locations in Gümüşlük, including the Koyunbaba Antique Stone Quarry, which is the site of the classical music concerts. The pianist Gülsin Onay will open the festival, in what will be her 2000th performance, on July 8th. She will be followed by such greats as the pianist Jean Muller (July 10), the pianist Emre Yavuz (July 9 and 15), the violinist Ayla Erduran (July 29), the pianist Stephane Blet (July 29 and 30) and the flautist Bülent Evcil (August 4), among many others.
As for the jazz performances, many distinguished musicians will take the stage at the Gümüşlük Pier, including the Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer on July 11 (he will also perform in Istanbul on July 12) and Simin Tander, a German pianist and vocalist, on July 12. There will also be a special section of the programme featuring guitarists like Redmond O’Toole (July 22), Marek Pasieczny (July 23) and Golfam Khayam (July 24).
