38th Istanbul Marathon

November 13, 2016
The race begins at 9.00
Registration has closed for the marathon, 15k and 10k. But walkers often take to the bridge once the runners have crossed, as it is only reopened to traffic at 11am.

It’s that time of year again – runners from Turkey and abroad lace up their trainers to run from Asia to Europe as part of the Istanbul Marathon.

All runners begin on the Asian side of the Bosphorus Bridge, very close to the Altunizade metrobus stop. After crossing the bridge, the course continues down Barbaros Caddesi in Beşiktaş and goes along the shore road, passing Dolmabahçe Palace, Istanbul Modern, Karaköy, and finally crossing over to Eminönü. The 15k continues on to Balat, while the marathon goes all the way out to Eyüp, then over to Bakırköy and finally loops back to Sultanahmet.

The atmosphere is lively, so stop by the course even if you’re not participating. Just be wary if you’re trying to get anywhere along the route. Roads will slowly reopen, with everything back to normal by 2pm.
