- What’s On
The Istanbul Music Festival, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, is again taking the city by storm. Spread over the month of June, this festival, in its 44th year, offers an exciting programme of classical music built around a line from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night: ‘If music be the food of love, play on’.
Almost 600 local and international artists will participate in this year’s festival. The festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the legendary pianist Murray Perahia before his performance at Aya Irini on June 6. The programme also features such big names as İdil Biret, Gautier Capuçon, Angel Blue, Gérard Caussé, Herbert Schuch, Patricia Petibon, Alice Sara Ott, Maria João Pires, Antonio Meneses, Maxim Vengerov, Richard Galliano, and Sylvain Luc, as well as some of the world’s leading ensembles, such as Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, Artemis Quartet, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, this year’s Guest Orchestra in Residence.
