Inga Nerman was only 22 years old when she first came to Istanbul in 1926, invited by the minister of sports to teach gymnastics. Her experiences were recorded in letters and photograhs, now made public in a recent book by Swedish writer Carina Beckerman. Beckerman will tell us about her own work with the book and about Inga’s life in the early days of the modern Turkish state. The time in Istanbul was the most important period in Inga Nerman’s life and also a dramatic period in the history of Turkey.
Carina Beckerman is a member of the Swedish Writers’ Union and has published both fiction and poetry.
