Asia House is hosting their annual Asian marketplace, a unique pop-up shopping extravaganza that brings together the best in arts, crafts, fashion, food and design from across the Asian region. Throughout the four-day event, Asia House’s magnificent London headquarters just north of Oxford Street will be transformed into a bustling bazaar where shoppers will have the chance to buy unique and unusual items not normally seen on the high street including jewellery, textiles, and arts and crafts sourced from Asia or inspired by traditional craftsmanship.
Visitors will be able to browse over 30 stalls and purchase original and ethically-sourced items such as vintage kimonos from Japan; handmade fabrics from the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia; silk embroidery art; experimental artisan chocolate; traditional textiles from Khiva in Uzbekistan; artisanal Indian silver jewellery; and bespoke Indian bridal wear.
Many of the stallholders have a unique story to tell about the communities they source their products from. They typically work with traditional craftsmen and artisans in countries across Asia, including many living in marginalised communities. Some work with tribal communities or women in remote regions for whom the products are essential sources of income.
To get an exclusive preview of what’s on sale, register for the Fair Preview Night on Thursday evening (click here to reserve your spot). If you’re an Asia House Arts Member, bring along your membership card to the preview night and get a free drink of your choice.
As a bonus, Asia House’s chef Paul Bloomfield will host an Asian street food pop-up café all day from Friday to Sunday.
