In conjunction with the The Russian Avant-garde: Dreaming of the Future through Art and Design exhibition, the Sakip Sabancı Museum is presenting a series of events and performances that reinterpret Russian avant-garde works.

The first performance, Güneşin Zaptı, will be an experimental dance performance, choreographed and performed by the talented Taldans dance group and set to the 1913 Russian Futurist opera Victory Over the Sun. The opera explores the parallels between text, music, and art; Taldans furthers this exploration with a performative piece that highlights the relationship between text, body and rhythm. Rather than directly interpreting this well-known avant-garde work, the choreography of Taldans accentuates the fluidity between language, body and art.

The performance will be set in the exhibition space.

The libretto of Victory Over the Sun was originally performed in 1913 in St Petersburg; it was written by Futurist poets Aleksei Kruchenykh and Velimir Khlebnikov, and the music was composed by Mikhail Matyushin.

The Taldans dance group, founded in 2003 by the dancers Mustafa Kaplan and Fılız Sızanlı, takes its name from Tiyatro Araştırma Laboratuvarı (Theater Research Labratory). For their repertoire and future events, see their website.
