In April, the superb season of Istanbul Recitals continues with Belfast-born pianist Barry Douglas. He will be performing pieces by Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky; he is particularly well known for his interpretation and performance of Tchaikovsky, and in 1986 he won the gold medal in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the first non-Russian to do so since Van Cilburn in 1958. In addition to performing, he is the founder and conductor of the Camerata Ireland orchestra.
You can watch an interview with him and part of his award-winning Tchaikovsky performance here, and catch up on some of his newer projects in this Tiny Desk Concert hosted by NPR music.
