B.C Pop Art

Yusuf Aygeç

December 5, 2013 – January 5, 2014

C.A.M. Galeri, Çukurcuma Caddesi No. 38/A, Beyoğlu

Newcomer Yusuf Aygeç’s first solo show presents figures from bygone eras done in the style of pop art.

In a tongue-in-cheek fashion, Aygeç codes certain images of pop culture into popular figures of art history and makes a claim that there is little difference between people now and then – the ego, pretence and materialism have remain unchanged. Aygeç also wants to make a more general comment on the evolution of art. Throughout its development and transformation, art has been interrupted in certain periods in history due to religious and political impacts. The question the artist poses is: ‘What kind of works would emerge if the artists were not forced to paint the royal families or the church, for instance?’
