Bitter Things

Narratives and Memories of Transnational Families

May 19, 2018 – July 1, 2018

DEPO, Tütün Deposu, Lüleci Hendek Caddesi No.12, Tophane, Istanbul

The Berlin-based collective bi’bak’s second exhibition at DEPO delves into the complicated subject of transnational families. Drawing from interviews and testimonials of people who were separated through labor and migration policies, the artists and founders of bi’bak Malve Lippmann and Can Sungu create a tapestry that represents the scope of these experiences. They draw attention to the emotional weight of separation through objects infused with personal meaning and the way parents and children stay connected over great distances. Their work spans the 1960s through the present day.
