Bridging Two Continents: the Bosphorus Bridge

October 31, 2013 – June 29, 2014

The Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Piri Paşa Mh. Kumbarhane Cad. No: 2, 34445 Beyoğlu/Istanbul, Turkey

The first Bosphorus Bridge, completed in 1973, was the first link connecting Europe with Asia after increases in road traffic and trade meant that people were waiting for hours or even days to cross the Bosphorus. The 1,074m steel suspension bridge was the fourth longest in the world at the time of its construction and the longest outside the USA. Its design and construction was a truly international project and involved many hardworking locals.

This exhibition, in memory of the engineer Dr William Brown, celebrates the design, construction and continued success of the Bosphorus Bridge on its 40th anniversary, as well as the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge (the Second Bosphorus Bridge) on its 25th anniversary.
