Koç University invites graduate students of history, art history, archaeology and/or urbanism to apply for an innovative residential summer school focused on the subject of Istanbul. By virtue of its history, its geographical setting, and its monuments, Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world, and this special programme allows students to live in and learn about this fascinating place.
The five-week programme is organized chronologically. Individual units introduce students to the history of settlement on the site of Istanbul, beginning in the Neolithic Age and ending in the 21st century. Throughout the course, whether addressing the classical, Byzantine, Ottoman or other eras, the focus will remain urban: how the city worked, and how monuments were integrated into its fabric. Field trips will offer access to sites, monuments and collections not normally accessible. All instruction will be in English.
The programme takes place from July 11 – August 19. Applications are due on April 30. For more information on how to apply, click here.
