This October, Christie’s Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds auction will include an extensive range of rare and beautiful works that date from the 9th to the 19th century. Covering a geographical area stretching from India in the East to al-Andalus in modern Spain in the West, the sale comprises several private collections, including The Collection of Professor Rudolf Gelpke and a selection of paintings from The Estate of William Kelly Simpson, both of which demonstrate a collector’s lifelong passion for Islamic art.
In addition, the sale will feature a group of exceptional classical Anatolian weavings, as well as 19th century village rugs that highlight the life of the nomadic tribes of Northern Persia and the intense natural colours and dynamic designs used by weavers in the mountainous regions of the Caucasus.
