In this recital, the famous Italian violinist Davide Alogna is accompanied by the distinguished Turkish pianist Cana Gürmen. They will play works by Mozart, Albéniz/Kreisler, Brahms, Elgar and Grieg. The first item on their programme is Mozart’s 1781 Sonata for Violin and Piano in B flat major, K 378. They then play Albéniz’s 1890 Tango, Opus 165 No 2 (part of his Espana suite, originally written for piano), in an arrangement by Fritz Kreisler; Brahms’s 1879 Hungarian Dance No 5; Elgar’s 1888 Salut d’Amour, composed when he was romantically involved with Caroline Alice Roberts, his future wife; and Grieg’s 1887 Sonata for Violin and Piano No 3 in C minor, one of the composer’s own favourite works.
