One of Syria’s most important vocalists, Lena Chamamyan, known for combining jazz and classical music will be joined by some of the greats of the contemporary Turkish jazz scene: Tuluğ Tırpan, Özer Arkun, and Göksel Baktagir in a concert at Yıldız Palace.

Chamamyan has released two albums in 2006 and 2007, and describes her music as an attempt to revive folkloric Syrian songs in a modern style and arrangement. She endevours to ‘keep the originality of the melodies and the lyrics in order to crete a link between monotonous oriental classic music and contemporary world music’. Tırpan is a renowned classical composer-pianist who studied at the Vienna Conservatory, and spends his time between Turkey and Vienna. Özer Arkun is considered to be one of the best cellists in Turkey, and Göksel Baktagir is a kanun (plucked zither) player who has made a significant contribution to the New Age and jazz scene in the country.
