Entropy

November 2, 2013 – January 4, 2014

Zilberman Gallery and Project Space, Mısır Apt, İstiklâl Cad 163, Floors 2 & 3, D5 & 10, Galatasaray, Beyoğlu, 34433 İstanbul

Curated by Vassilios Doupas, this group exhibition of international artists applies the term ‘entropy’ to cultural and political theory, and explores the subversive elements, or destabilising forces, in a closed system.

For example, American artist Kay Rosen’s ‘Short Story’ explores the ‘closed’ linguistic system, while Swiss artist Christoph Büchel presents a carpet from his well-known series ‘Made in ‘Afghanistan’ (2001–2006). The work is a politically direct yet playfully comments on global capitalism and American hegemony, and reflects Büchel’s strategy of demystifying dominant ideological forces by exposing them as constructed realities subject to change.

The other exhibiting artists are: Maurizio Cattelan, Annika von Hausswolff, William E. Jones and Frank Selby.
