September 13, 2017 – November 3, 2017

French Cultural Centre, İstiklal Caddesi No. 4, Taksim, Istanbul

The figure of the flâneuse, a casual stroller or saunterer, infuses this group show curated by the Director of the Istanbul Biennial Bige Örer and featuring five Turkish artists who participated in the Cité Internationale des Arts Artist Residency Programme in Paris. The artists draw from their own city strolls, unexpected observations and memories of walking.

Güneş Terkol’s work entitle Good Days will debut on the outer façade of the French Cultural Centre. Terkol’s work is drawn from a workshop with women migrants to Istanbul. The participants explored their experiences, dreams and traumas through the medium of paper, pencil and cloth, creative a collective body of work that reflects on their personal experiences.

Aslı Çavuşoğlu presents pieces from two different phases in her career. Muthoscapes revisits legends and different tellings of the same history, while her work Delivery6 explores the connection between flânerie and literature.

Yasemin Özcan’s book, Air like Lemonade, will be on display. It delves into the relationship between women and men, beholder and object, the visible and the invisible.

İz Öztat collaborates with Zişan, a historical figure and her alter-ego. Through a variety of mediums, Her installation investigates the relation between Acéphale, an avant-garde experiment in 1930s Paris, and Zişan.
