Fulya Art Centre, Hakkı Yeten Cad. No:10, Dikilitaş, Istanbul

This exhibition, titled Yaşar Kemal’e Bir Ara’lık Bakış in Turkish, will display Ara Güler’s photographs of the beloved writer Yaşar Kemal, as well as document the friendship between these two cultural greats.

Ara Güler, whose photographs Kemal described as a ‘a grand Anatolian epic’, was the first person that Kemal met when he came to Istanbul. After that first meeting, Güler photographed Kemal in several different cities and places, including Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Adana and Paris. The 43 photographs on display, whittled down from the 125 photographs featured in the exhibition catalogue, date from Kemal’s first visit to Istanbul until his death.

This very special exhibition not only documents the life of one of Turkey’s most beloved authors, but it does so through the lens of one of the country’s most beloved photographers.
