A musical journey paying tribute to the 18th century Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti by an Ensemble that is a regular to music festivals in their native France and Europe.
The Ensemble Jacques Moderne explores a wide range of vocal repertoire from across Europe and different periods. They are particularly interested in German Baroque and the periods of the French and European Renaissance. Under the artistic direction of Joël Suhubiette for the past 15 years, the Ensemble have recorded a number of albums and performed to wide critical acclaim at the most prestigious concert halls worldwide.
Scarlatti was born in Naples and spent most of his life in the services of Spanish and Portuguese families (thus the title of the performance). He was typically classified as a Baroque composer but was also greatly influential in the development of the classical music, and composed many religious works throughout his life so the venue of a church for this performance seems rather appropriate.
