In this concert ‘Orchestra Istanbul’, founded in 2005 by conductor Oğuzhan Balcı, play works by Mozart, Nielsen and Britten. The first item on their programme will be Mozart’s Divertimento in B flat major, K 137, originally scored for two violins, viola and cello. They will then accompany Başar Can Kıvrak, a Turkish pianist trained at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire in Moscow, in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 14 in E flat major, K449. Following this, the orchestra will play the Little Suite for Strings, Opus 1, by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931). Finally, they will perform the Simple Symphony for string orchestra, written in 1933-34 by the British composer Benjamin Britten (1913-76).
