- What’s On
The sequel to the Kurdish artist Mahmut Celayir’s 2008–2009 show Pekerun I, this exhibition comprises works that form the artist’s visual memories of journeys he has taken.
Pekerun means ‘the place beyond the stones’ in Zaza, a dialect used by certain Kurdish groups. Celayir regards this place as an imaginary and symbolic space for himself, a place for questioning existence. In his works, he searches for a collective memory and identity of peoples in lands where shepherds roam today but where once kings and armies marched, and banishments took place.
