- What’s On
Though this is not a comfortable age for journalists in Turkey, the new exhibition at DEPO celebrates the rich cultural history and pluralism of the printed word. Gathering together a plethora of newspapers and journal from various cultural groups in Istanbul, this exhibition offers a social perspective on the importance and scope of media. The pieces of display include Jamanak, Istanbul’s oldest newspaper dating from 1908, El Emaneser, the world’s only weekly publication in Ladino, Jineps, a Circassian publication, a 25-year-old Kurdish literature journal called Nubihar, and Istanbul’s oldest Greek (Rum) newspaper, Apoyevmatini.
This exhibition is organized by Bulent Bilmez from the History Department of Istanbul Bilgi University.
