- What’s On
Singapore maintains a global reputation as an affluent, clean, modern city-state, but this exhibition of local photographers draws the veil back on the unseen underbelly of the metropolis. Curator Tay Kay Chin brings together a diverse group of Singaporean and international Singapore-based photographers to share their visions of family life, meat markets, nature and cityscapes. The ‘ordinary’ scenes they capture range from the mundane to the transcendent, stopping on the way to face stereotypes head-on, as in John Clang’s photographs annotated with phrases like ‘No, we don’t go to jail for chewing gum.’
There is a programme of related films accompanying the exhibition entitled Dreaming Singapore that are showing throughout the month.
