- What’s On
The latest paintings from the German artist Stephan Kaluza. The black-and-white landscapes, full of sharp contrasts and depth, highlight the distance between nature and the human world.
Says the curator, Feza Velicangil: ‘The paintings show the visual beauty of peaceful places. The artist’s starting point was the desire to share his experience of working on the photography project Battlefields. The series focused on the effect names have on how we see places. For example, presented with a painting showing peaceful scenery, how will our perceptions change when we discover that this landscape was painted near Ausschwitz.’
