Sticks and Stones

Fatma Bucak

September 29, 2017 – November 21, 2017

Pi Artworks London, 55 Eastcastle Street, London W1W 8EF

Fatma Bucak’s brings her first UK solo exhibition to Pi Artworks London, curated by Nat Muller. Her work, incorporating photographs, videos and installations, focuses on the polarizing climate of assault on the press, and two twin struggles for freedom of expression and freedom of movement. The title of the exhibition refers both to the nursery rhyme (‘Sticks and stones may break my bones…’) and the actual incorporation of sticks and stones as material into her work. Her piece Damascus Rose uses replanted rose cuttings from Damascus to reflect on Syrian refugees and their journeys across Europe. Bucak’s work reminds us of the fragility and the resilience of life.
