Shipwrecks of Yenikapı

A glimpse of one of the world’s most remarkable excavations: the harbour built by Emperor Theodosius on the Marmara shore of the old walled city of Constantinople. The latest shipwreck, found in May 2013, brings the total number of shipwreck collection to an astonishing 37. The wrecks shed light on trade in the Byzantine capital, vessels of the period and everyday life. “Stories from The Hidden Harbor: Shipwrecks of Yenikapı” focuses on finds from the Ottoman and Byzantine periods identified at Yenikapı but also includes Neolithic finds from beneath the harbour floor.
