- What’s On
From audition to full-blown concert via three weeks of intense rehearsal, the conductor Cem Mansur’s incredible Turkish National Youth Orchestra steps up to perform Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Verdi and Bartók. This concert is both a final dress rehearsal before a 12-concert tour of Portugal and Spain and a chance for the orchestra’s Friends to help the project on its way.
Donations of 300 TL per ticket will help provide badly needed funds, which get no easier to raise for all the tremendous reviews the orchestra has received since its inception in 2007. Would-be sponsors reading this notice, please contact Cem Mansur or the project coordinator Emre Haraççıoğlu directly. Mansur’s young talents, aged from 14 to 28, are a rare beacon of hope this gloomy summer. Reassuring that in two decades’ time, all the inflated egos dominating the papers today will have been consigned to the dustheap of history. And these young heroes will still stepping on to the stage to another night of music and rapturous applause. Hats off to Mr Mansur and his friends.
