Shapero Rare Books is launching their new catalogue of 100 books and prints, which gives a full picture of the global reach of the Ottoman state from a European perspective. Highlights include four watercolours by Luigi Mayer and pen-and-ink panoramas of Constantinople by Carbognano.
Coinciding with the launch of their catalogue, Dr Philip Mansel will give a short talk on the Ottoman Empire, which peaceably ruled much of the civilised world with Constantinople as a major trading centre for centuries. Altogether Mansel has published 13 books of history and biography, mainly relating to the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East, including Aleppo: Rise and Fall of a Syria’s Great Merchant City, published in April 2016.
Visitors will also be able to browse the bookshop over a glass of wine.
