Join Professor Nurhan Atasoy for a lecture at the Met Fifth Avenue on impressions of Ottoman visual culture. Dr Atasoy will explore the rich cross-cultural exchanges between the Ottomans and their European neighbours and discuss the factors that led to the flowering of vibrant and sophisticated artistic production throughout the vast Ottoman Empire in the centuries following the conquest of Constantinople in 1453.

This lecture is part of a new annual lecture series that will highlight Ottoman and Turkish art in celebration of Turkey’s centennial in 2023. This series is made possible by The Turkish Centennial Fund.
