There Is No God In the Sky Only Birds

Galeri NON, Tomtom Mah., Nur-i-Ziya Sokak No. 16, Tophane, Beyoğlu

Working across multiple media, the controversial artist Extrastruggle presents a collection of conceptual works that question authority and a controlling government in Turkey’s sensitive political climate. Since 1997, the artist’s work has set out to tell the autobiography of Turkey; the country’s controversial history and its shaky political past and present.

Says the artist: ‘Any type of government based on the rule of human beings by human beings is bound to end in injustice, unfairness and oppression. So it is necessary to bravely propose that the basis for life should be a type of order with no state and no law; an order in which every human being lives independently and autonomously. I must also add that I accept the fact that reality, an absolute truth, is unknowable. Unfortunately, the creature known as the human being is not equipped with the formation required to acquire absolute knowledge. It is perhaps necessary to carry out the struggle not outside (extra) but inside (intra).’
