The Sakıp Sabancı Museum presents a selection of photographs and objects from the family of Muhammad Ali Pasha as a way to delve into his complex and fascinating legacy. Muhammad Ali Pasha was sent to Egypt as an Ottoman military commander and eventually laid the groundwork for the modern state of Egypt. Housed in the Atlı Köşk mansion section of the museum, the exhibition explores the way Muhammad Ali Pasha and his descendents contributed to the culture of 19th century Istanbul through the patronage of musicians, artists and writers. Through these objects, we can explore his dynasty’s lasting legacy.
