Transcendental: a journey of consciousness

Sezin Aksoy

February 7, 2014 – February 22, 2014

Chalabi Art Gallery, Mim Kemal Öke Caddesi No. 17, Nişantaşı

Sezin Aksoy, who is influenced by the idea of ‘transcendental idealism’ as theorised by Kant in his 18th-century text, Critique of Pure Reason, presents a series of paintings in which she emphasises the perception of objects in the human consciousness.

With her latest paintings, the artist again takes inspiration from Kant’s writings but also shows an interest in esoteric and religious forms. She is also influenced by the ideas of ‘transcendentalist’ thinker Ralph Waldo Emerson and tries to find a harmony for these different spiritual and intellectual concepts in her work. All in all, the artist underlines that the existence of human reality can only be found by searching one’s own consciousness.
