- What’s On
In this solo exhibition, Pınar Öğrenci presents her war- and immigration-themed video works. They explore the idea of changing places – whether covertly or visible – and reach across a wide geography, from Baghdad to Vienna.
Of note is her work ‘A Gentle Breeze Passed Over Us’, which was inspired by Öğrenci’s meeting with Ahmed Shaqaqi, an oud player from Baghdad, in Vienna. The encounter made the artist question the meaning of home and homeland. More than a documentary series about immigrants, the film asks larger questions: What is the type of space that we live in and would it be possible tell stories of this new world without submitting to the terror and desperation of being displaced? Could music construct a temporary space, a home for the immigrant who is in an in-between space?
