- What’s On
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp’s two readymades, ‘Bicycle Wheel’ (1913) and ‘Bottle Rack’ (1914), this exhibition displays the retrospective and current works of artists who have utilised and interpreted readymade objects in different contexts and aesthetics.
Duchamp took ordinary manufactured objects and modified them, as an antidote to what he called ‘retinal art’. By simply choosing the object and repositioning, joining, titling or signing it, the object became art. Representing the extreme form of minimalism, it was a pioneering form of contemporary art at the time.
The exhibiting artists are: Gülçin Aksoy, Songül Boyraz, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, Lydia Dambassina, Ivan Egelski, Erol Eskici, Şakir Gökçebağ, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Pravdoliub Ivanov, Serhat Kiraz, Komet, Murat Morova, Vahit Tuna, Uygur Yılmaz and Ahmet Öktem.
