- What’s On
In Rampa’s second exhibition hall just across the road from the main space, Turkish veteran artist Cengiz Çekil presents his new work where a cleaning cloth takes centre stage.
Repetition is a common motif in Çekil’s work and here he presents 144 pieces all taking the form of a cleaning cloth on a canvas with pieces of string and lace providing the extra detail. The only way the artist distinguishes them is by using different colours and different patterns of lace. By using such a banal object is Çekil questioning mass production? This is not entirely clear yet the rows upon rows of almost-identical pieces displayed in such a large, open space certainly have a potent effect.
