Workshops with the Islamic design specialist Eric Broug

January 28, 2016 – January 30, 2016
Tickets for individual workshops and lectures, or a combination ticket for all four events, can be purchased from Eric Broug’s Eventbrite page.

MEF International School, Ulus Mah. Öztopuz Cad. Leylak Sok. Ortaköy, Istanbul

Eric Broug, an author, educator and artist specialised in Islamic geometric design, will be giving a series of lectures and workshops at MEF International School over the course of three days at the end of January. The two lectures will, respectively, provide an introduction to Ottoman and Seljuk geometric design and explore what we can learn from these rich design traditions when designing for the contemporary world. The workshops are longer and more involved – over the course of a day, Broug will teach the techniques of Islamic geometric patterns to beginners (Friday) and those with more experience in drawing these patterns (Saturday).

Broug is the author of several popular books. His first book Islamic Geometric Patterns has been a bestselling Islamic art books since its publication and is published in Turkish as İslam Sanatında Geometrik Desenler. His latest publication, Islamic Geometric Design, is a large art book with over 800 illustrations. He has recently set up the School of Islamic Geometric Design in the UK, dedicated to worldwide Islamic geometric design education. He also manages a dynamic social media community dedicated to Islamic art.
