- What’s On
A deliciously elegant 100% silk scarf handwoven in Antakya (ancient Antioch) by Yılmaz İpekçilik, a family firm using traditional techniques with madder and silk. Handwash only.
Founded in 1954, Yılmaz İpekçilik have successfully preserved the art of silk hand-weaving against the onslaught of synthetic silks which killed off the industry in many parts of the country. To produce their beautifully woven scarves, they use the traditional hand-rolled system to extract the fibre from its cocoon. The owners, the Büyükaşık family, have been cultivating silk cocoons and producing silk fabrics since 1936, acquiring their skills from an Armenian family in Aleppo.
