Open call for American Turkish Society grants

The American Turkish Society (ATS) is now accepting submissions for two excellent funding opportunities/awards for artists/those working in the arts.

Young photographers can apply for the 2015 Young Photographers Award before the end of this month. The Award has been given annually since 2010 by Haluk Soykan, who funds the Award, to encourage and support undergraduate students of photography in Turkey. In previous years, instead of an open call, photography department heads of select universities nominated two students to participate. But starting last year – in order to give an opportunity to a wider range of Turkish photography talent – the Award has been run as an open call. The winner will receive $5,000 and have his/her photography exhibited at Mixer, a pioneering Istanbul art space in terms of young artists and sustainable art production, in autumn this year. Two honorable mentions will receive $2,500 each and also have their work exhibited at Mixer.

The applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a photography or visual art department at a university in Turkey. Students who are enrolled in departments other than photography or art are not eligible to apply. To apply, send your completed application form (download here) and a copy of your university transcript to by June 27, 11.59pm Istanbul time.

Meanwhile, artists and art directors can apply for the ATS’s Moon and Stars Project summer grants. These grants aim to encourage the development of Turkish art by offering funds for creative arts projects and residencies. The amount of each grant is determined by the project’s scope, the availability of total funds and the number of projects selected.

To apply, please send your completed application form (download here), a cover letter detailing the funding request, supporting materials (e.g. music, literature, scripts, etc), CV (for artists only) and visuals of past projects (if applicable) to by July 30.
