15th Istanbul Biennial: A Good Neighbour

September 16, 2017 – November 12, 2017
Free admission.

The 15th installment of the Istanbul Biennial promises to be creative and daring, with innovative venues throughout the city. The exhibition, curated by the artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset, presents a variety of artworks dealing with different ideas of home and neighbourhood.

The main venues for the Biennial are the Istanbul Modern, the Galata Greek Primary School, Ark Kültür, Pera Museum, an artist collective’s studio, and Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hammam. The Istanbul Modern will contain multinational artists’ works, including large-scale sculptures and installations. The Ark Kültür space will be transformed into a “house museum” where visitors engage with layered narratives. The works on view at the Pera Museum will be on the top three floors of the venue. A participating local artist collective will be redesigning their Beyoğlu studio, which welcome smaller crowds on a fixed viewing schedule for an immersive installation developed specifically for the Biennial. At the 15th-century Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hammam, a female artist will occupy the male section of the hammam and a male artist will occupy the female section, in order to challenge the traditional gender separation of the space.

More information about the Istanbul Biennial can be found here.
