- What’s On
The London Turkish Film Festival, now in its 19th year, will open with Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun’s bittersweet tale, Yozgat Blues (2013). Set in the small Anatolian town of Yozgat, it tells the story of a barber who, after having an emotional breakdown, runs into an ageing singer and his student who have come to town to sing in a small music hall-bar. The festival will follow with 10 days of screenings of the best from Turkish cinema.
One of the films that will be shown is Andrea Luka Zimmerman’s Taşkafa, Stories of the Street, which premiered at last year’s Istanbul Film Festival and this year’s Alchemy Film Festival. Tim Cornwell reviews the film and the festival in his blog.
