- What’s On
The Istanbul Jazz Festival, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), is again taking the city by storm. Without a doubt the highlight of the summer season, the festival features some of today’s best jazz, blues and funk musicians, including Nile Rodgers, who will be performing with his band Chic, Joss Stone, Kamasi Washington and Gregory Porter. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg – click here to see the full programme.
While the jazz is certainly appealing, the festival also scores points for taking advantage of Istanbul’s outdoor venues. This year the venues range from charming embassies and former factories on the Bosphorus to modern concert halls in the European City to outdoor spaces on the Anatolian side – so there’s truly something for everyone. The venues are: the garden of the Austrian Consulate in Yeniköy, the German Embassy’s summer residence in neighbouring Tarabya, Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Emirgan, Bomontiada in Şişli, Beykoz Kundura Factory in Beykoz, Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre in Nişantaşı, the garden of the İstanbul Boys’ High School in Cağaloğlu, Zorlu Performing Arts Centre in Levent, Salon İKSV in Şişhane, Uniq Open Air Stage in Ayazağa, and Fenerbahçe Park and Fenerbahçe Khalkedon in Kadıköy.
In addition, the ‘Night Out’ concerts take place in various small venues around Kadıköy and Moda, providing a more intimate experience.
