- What’s On
This year’s Istanbul Music Festival, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), returns this year with the theme of ‘family bonds’. The festival will feature performances by families, including children with parents and siblings, while also emphasising the strong familial community among music lovers in Istanbul.
The opening week sets the tone for an eclectic and rich festival. ‘Women Stars of Tomorrow: Young Women Musicians Support Fund’, launched in collaboration with the festival to support up-and-coming female musicians, will showcase the selected women when they perform a concert on May 28 at Boğaziçi University Albert Long Hall. We are also looking forward to the June 1 performance at the Hagia Irene of Joyce Didonato and Il Pomo D’oro’s project In War & Peace.
The festival celebrates the fabric of the city, with special concerts at the Grand Bazaar and Sirkeci Terminal. On June 10, there will also be a musical journey accompanied by professional guides along the Music Route through Galata and Karaköy, with stops at the Italian Synagogue, St. Georg Church, St. Peter and Paul Church, and the Ashkenazi Synagogue.
Concerts will take place in venues all over the city, including Aya Irini Museum on the Seraglio Point, the Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Centre in Nişantaşı, the İş Sanat Concert Hall in Levent, and the Süreyya Opera House in Kadıköy.
