- What’s On
UMA, the Urla International Music Academy, continues its exciting series of masterclasses in September with three maestros, the cellist Leonard Elschenbroich (Sept 5–9), the horn-player Radovan Flatkovic (Sept 12–16) and the eminent clarinetist Michel Lethiec (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris), who returns for the third time (Sept 26–30).
Classes take place in a beautiful merchant’s house in the heart of old Urla, bought by two highly musical sisters ten years ago. The first series was held in 2009. The 19th-century stone house with its high-ceilings and inviting courtyard garden offers marvellous acoustics and the perfect setting for both recitals and masterclasses. Public performances will also be offered. The series is being sponsored this year by Cornucopia.
