The Akbank Contemporary Artist Prize is organised in collaboration with the Painting and Sculpture Museum Association and the Akbank Art Centre. Its aim is to develop contemporary art in the country by providing support for young artists. Works by the 17 finalists are presented in this exhibition, curated by Philippe Van Cauteren. Running for over 30 years, the Prize reflects the state of contemporary art in Turkey with a wide range of works by talented emerging artists.
This year, the first prize was granted to Hazal Ünsal for her stone installation. The second prize was given to Volkan Kızıltunç, who mostly works in photography and video. He produced a video about memories. And the third prize was given to Şafak Gürboğa for his multi-tiered installation.
The exhibited artists are: Alp Seker, Ayşe İri, Bestami Gerekli, Betül Sertkaya, Burak Dikilitaş, Elif Erker, Elif Köse, Ferhat Akay, Furkan Öztekin, Gizem Dinç, Gürkan Mıhçı, H Burak Yel, Hazal Ünsal, Mehmet Öğüt, Soner Ulu, Şafak Gürboğa and Volkan Kızıltunç.
