Akram Zaatari

December 2, 2014 – February 15, 2015

SALT Beyoğlu, İstiklâl Caddesi No. 136, Beyoğlu

Continuing with its showcase of Lebanese artists (following the Rabih Mroué show in the spring), SALT Beyoğlu presents a major survey exhibition of the renowned artist Akram Zaatari. Whole or parts of works such as ‘The Uneasy Subject’, ‘28 Nights and A Poem / Objects of Study / The Studio’, the ‘Shehrazade’ archive, ‘Earth of Endless Secret’s and the ‘Time Capsule’ project will be displayed.

The floors of SALT Beyoğlu will be divided thematically, bringing together Zaatari’s videos, photographs and installations that date from 1998 to 2014 and share common ideas and interests. Works on the third floor take into account the body, space and communication, and include Zaatari’s recent video ‘Beirut Exploded Views’. The second floor focuses on photography and archival materials. And the first floor is dedicated to Zaatari’s interest in excavation and archaeology. A new work on Osman Hamdi Bey’s discovery of the Alexander Sarcophagus in 1887 in Sidon will be premiered in this section.
