An Ordinary Love

Gülsün Karamustafa

January 18, 2014 – February 15, 2014

Rampa Istanbul, Şair Nedim Caddesi No 20, Kat -2, Akaretler, Beşiktaş

In Rampa’s second exhibition hall just across the road from the main space, this exhibition sees audiences reunited with veteran artist Gülsün Karamustafa 1984 work ‘An Ordinary Love’, which was presumed to be lost. The work is the second collage rug Karamustafa produced in scope of the rug series she made between 1983 and 1986, and it was awarded the Contemporary Artists Exhibition Prize in 1985.

Commenting on the wall rugs and kitsch objects that adorned the interior spaces of shantytown houses specifically and the phenomenon of migration from rural to urban areas more generally, the work is presented alongside Karamustafa’s 2011 installation ‘Shrine Online’, which explores similar themes.
