Anish Kapoor

September 10, 2013 – February 2, 2014

Sakıp Sabancı Museum, Sakıp Sabancı Cad 42, Emirgan 34467 Istanbul

The first major exhibition of renowned Indian-born, London-based artist Anish Kapoor will take place at the paragon of culture, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum, for the remainder of the year.

Curated by Sir Norman Rosenthal, this exhibition will be the first worldwide to focus on Kapoor’s stone sculptures in marble, alabaster and other materials – many of which have never been seen before.

Anish Kapoor is one of the most influential sculptors of the 21st century. Over the past 30 years he has exhibited at venues including the Kunsthalle Basel, the Tate, the Hayward Gallery, the Reina Sofia in Madrid, the CAPC in Bordeaux, the Haus der Kunst in Munich, the MAK in Vienna and the Deutsche Guggenheim.

His most famous works include massive public sculptures such as ‘Cloud Gate’ in Chicago and the spiraling red tower ‘Orbit’ in London’s Olympic Park – and he is renowned for not only designing but also creating the sculptures himself (although he has the help of 30 or so assistants).

This is a major event in Istanbul’s contemporary art world and should not to be missed.
