Back to the Future: Reconstruction of Anatolian Carpets from Renaissance Paintings

The independent researcher and textile collector Ali Rıza Tuna will present on early Anatolian carpets and their depiction in Italian Renaissance paintings. Through research, Tuna has reconstructed – both virtually and as actual woven objects – the now vanished rugs shown in famous works by such painters as Domenico Ghirlandaio, Piero della Francesca and Lorenzo Lotto.

Born in Istanbul and educated in France, Tuna has long been a passionate collector of Anatolian textiles, as well as an independent scholar and lecturer on various aspects of early Anatolian carpets.
